Dear Friends,
You may want to skip the verbiage of this offer and go directly to the price – in the end, that’s (most likely) what will appeal to the majority of you and I have a feeling #41 will be hotly contested (i.e. – you may want to get in line quickly).
If you don’t have the ability to scroll down on your smartphone, I’ll spell it out for you:
Boutique/estate-level Cabernet Sauvignon
$13.99
Do I need to go into more detail?
The fact that this received admirable verbiage and a 91, 92, 93 or 94 pt score from one of the major pundits tells the rest of the story (if we are being quick and dirty about the matter).
After several attempts to move the already negotiated Mystery Wine-worthy price below $18.99 (a price that was more than fair but it just didn't sit well enough with me), a gentle maneuver this morning enabled us to push the throttle forward on Mystery Wine #41...and the $13.99 tariff is the result.
What I can tell you:
• This is the top Cabernet Sauvignon from the winery
• It is the exact same wine I just placed back into a revered wine shop’s rack in Seattle (at $28.99 no less).
• It is not from 2008
• it is from a single AVA and vineyard (i.e. Sonoma Mountain, Dundee Hills, Columbia Gorge, etc)
• As noted above, it received a great review from one of the major US publications (somewhere in the 91, 92, 93 or 94 range – can’t be more specific but it was not from Jay Miller or the Wine Enthusiast).
• This is not a screw-cap bottle or “cheap” Cabernet.
• The lowest price I can find (on discount – they have a fairly large promotion in the Seattle area right now) is $22-25 – the regular cellar door price is $30-35 ($13.99 sounds a lot better to me).
• The style is more on the red fruit/silken end of Cabernet (although, this is is no shrinking violet – it’s still a mouthful but it is not in the black-strap molasses/wine steroid end of things).
• You will get to see the label in your shipping box and/or when you pick up – this is not a Kinko's label.
• The House of Kamehameha would not be out of place in this abode of cards.
• A straight face is good but a royal flush is better.
• It is not who looks upon but who looks over.
• An irrational man may be more sensible than foolish.
As I often say with the Mystery Wine series, for estate-level domestic Cabernet Sauvignon, what can be obtained of quality for under $20?
Not much.
Under $15?
Next to nothing.
On your mark, get set...GO!
